In August 2005 hurricane katrina hit the city of New Orleans in the U.S.A. New Orleans is the city where jazz music was born, of great coffee shops and local cuisine but it is also the city of opposition and racism since there is a large black community. At least 1,836 people lost their lives, most of them afro-americans, hundreds of thousands left unemployed and homeless. It is sad to notice that the Bush government delayed to respond to the victims causing many people to die from thirst, exhaustion and violence days after the hurricane had passed. The parts of the city that were mostly damaged were inhabited by afro-americans which raised a moral question of discrimination by the government. The racial mix in the city has changed significantly since many afro-americans have left their hometown as there are no proposals to rebuild the historical black neighbourhoods. Three years after the katrina those that remain in the city still live in trailers trying to restore their lives, face the future hopeless because help from the government never came.
If you were a citizen of New Orleans how would you advise the new american president, the first black president in the U.S. , to deal with the problems that the city is facing three years after the hurricane?

Well,if i was a a citizen of New Orleans i would adivse Obama to calculate all the money that is needed to rebuilt the city, feed the homeless and give them a home and then give the money to the proper organisations so he can be sure everyone will do his job.One other thing useful but hard to archieve is to take all the measures to prevent the city from being destroyed from the hurricane again. With all their technology i am sure they can figure out something helpful.Let's just hope that Obama will do his duty to defend the hopeles people and give them hope for a better future!

The bush goverment were very selfish about these people in new orleans. They didn't care about these people, about children, about women and about alder.I think that if there was OBAMA he would care about these people.

OH, WHAT HAPPENED IN NEW ORLEAN IS VERY SAD. I WOULD DEFINITELY NOT WANT TO LEAVE SUCH SITUATIONS.IS THE GOVERNMENT OF USA USELESS???
IF I WERE A MEMBER OF THE GOVERNNMENT, I WOULD ADVISE OBAMA TO BUILD NEW HOUSES TO ALL THESE PEOPLE AND FIND THEM JOBS.ALSO I WOULD SUGGEST HIM TO REBUILD THE TOWN(AS REGARDS PLAYGROUNDS, SCHOOLS, YOUTH CENTRES etc.)IN THE END, I THINK IS LOGICAL,GOVERNMENT PAY ALL THE MONEY THAT CITIZENS OF N.ORLEAN HAD TAKEN FROM THE BANKS FORNTHEIR NEEDS.
TO SUME UP, GOVERNMENT HAS TO DO WHATEVER IS POSSIBLE TO HELP THEM.

If I was a citizen of New Orleans I would ask mr. Obama to organise a charity, and use the money to rebuild houses, feed homeless people and help the aid humanitarian organisation. Of course, the government have to use all the possible technology to improve the people's lives and protect them from other natural disasters, like earthquakes. Also, racism must be stopped. All the people must fight for their equal rights!!! Izabella Kefala FCE1!!!

well,we live in 21th centure but we still have particles of racism inside us.I can,t believe how Bush goverment let some people die only because they were black.I hope that now Obama would rebuild New Orlean and help the homeless people and children.New orlean is now out of the mapfor the American goverment but in the future we hope that everyone would be interest about that country!!!
In my view we must help the people who live in New Orleans to make her city better and i advice all the countries to raise funs and food to send them.MariaNTHI
In my opinion Bush had to help in New Orleans, however he was taking photos. This behavior is unacceptable, you can't let children and families helpless without food and medicine.

In my opinion, the bush goverment were very egocentred and they don't care about all these people who suffer from the hurricane...because they don't want to give money to rebuild the destoyed builds..now,obama said that he helps these people and he gives money to start from the first their lifes..i hope the obama goverment to interest about this country and they don't tell only words but they do actions..haroula.high school gergeri...
