Google's founder Sergey Brin said that they want to be your third "brain half". Yesterday, Eric Schmidt said Google knows where you are, what you like, and will suggest what you should do next. And that wasn't all.
These are my favorites quotes from the Google CEO who said at Berlin's IFA 09/09/10 :
"We can suggest what you should do next, what you care about. Imagine: We know where you are, we know what you like.""Not only are you never lonely, you're never bored! We'll suggest what you should be watching, because we know what you care about.""A near-term future in which you don't forget anything, because the computer remembers. You're never lost."

"NEVER LOST BUT ALWAYS WATCHED AND CONTROLLED" SHOULD BE THE NEW MOTO OF HIS. THE "BIG BROTHER" IS CLOSER THAN EVER BUT ALL WE FEEL IS EXCITEMENT CONSIDERING THE APPLICATIONS OF GOOGLE. DO WE REALLY NEED A "THIRD PART OF OUR BRAIN"? WHAT IF THAT PART ENDS UP BEING THE ONLY ONE? AREN'T WE ABLE TO MAKE CHOICES FOR OURSELVES OR DO WE NEED A CONSULTANT FOR EVERY MOVE OF OURS?

This whole situation is a two sided coin. In fact, the one side is completely different than the other. On the one side, people do not want to share that kind of information. They want to keep their privacy. Using google, much of your preferences and personal opinions are immediately stored in Google's servers. On the other side of the coin stand people with the attitude "so what?". They believe that weather or not Google has their preferences, it's nothing important. They even like it, when they are suggested what to watch. It makes their life easier that way. Mostly these people are the ones that spend most of their time with technology and have come to trust it.
In my opinion, both are wrong. You can't just give your personal information to anyone, it's supposed to be a secret, while at the same time, there is nothing wrong at giving "Specific" information, so that Google can HELP you find what you are looking for.
